I've been working in newspapers since 1990, when I got my start as a summer student at the Calgary Herald. The following summer I moved to Kingston, where I worked for the Whig Standard for five years. It was at that time that I began writing columns and editorials. In the mid 1990s I moved to Toronto and lived there for a decade, working for The Globe and Mail and the National Post. Then came a stint with Osprey (now Sun Media), where I launched a national political column. Over the last few years I've been on assignment in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Dubai, Italy, Haiti and Japan, among other places.
